Our Achievements

As part of its mission to protect the identity of the highly specialized profession of fire protection contractor, the CMEICI has launched several initiatives to ensure compliance with or implementation of best practices. It has also contributed actively to various important issues having a tangible impact on the profession and spearheaded by other organizations.

Official spokesperson for the automatic sprinkler industry

The Ministère de la Sécurité publique considers the CMEICI to be the official spokesperson for the automatic sprinkler industry.

Mandatory installation in seniors’ residences

The CMEICI is the driving force behind the mandatory installation of automatic sprinkler systems in seniors’ residences.

Separated calls for tenders

The CMEICI separated out calls for tenders specific to traditional sprinkler systems that fall under the “Plumbing” section.

Exclusive jurisdiction of the fire protection mechanic

October 4, 2012

After substantial efforts by both the CMEICI and Local 3 of the FTQ, the construction industry commissioner ruled that the installation of fire protection systems, including the installation of all system activation devices (detection, wiring, accessories) and extinction networks, falls under the exclusive jurisdiction of the trade of fire protection mechanic.

Developing of a mobile school

The CMEICI, the CCQ, and Local 3 of the FTQ worked together to develop a mobile school. This unit, equipped with leading-edge technology (water, air, pre-action, foam , fire pump sprinkler systems, etc.) and a classroom, travels the province to offer professional development courses to fire protection mechanics.

First course for fire protection mechanics

The CMEICI was involved in developing the very first course for fire protection mechanics and, together with the CCQ and the Ministère de l’Éducation, oversees occasional updates to the course.

Upgrading the promotion examinations

The CMEICI partnered with the CCQ and industry experts to upgrade the promotion examinations for journeymen.

Raising awareness in several municipalities

The CMEICI, in collaboration with the Direction générale de la prévention des incendies of the Ministère des Affaires municipales, worked to raise awareness among industry decision-makers of the real impact of automatic sprinkler systems on protecting lives and property.
