Since 2010, there have been at least 7,225 fires each year in Québec. While there is no price tag that can be placed on a human life, material damages exceed $430 million each year. However, an automatic sprinkler system was present in no more than 10% of cases1.
Given the effectiveness of these systems at quickly containing a fire, minimizing smoke production, and preventing an explosive temperature increase, the chances of limiting damage from and surviving a fire are greatly increased when a system is present. Therefore, we can only imagine the positive repercussions—on a human and financial scale—if more automatic sprinkler systems were installed in buildings throughout Québec.
